Breaking down the Sun's off-season.

This off-season has been a far more successful off-season than any of us Suns' fans could of ever imagined. Every free agent seems to want to come to the desert. Despite losing the face of the franchise, a two time MVP, and probably the most popular Suns' player of all time in Steve Nash; the Suns got back 4 draft picks. On the same day they also signed Goran Dragic to a 34M/4yr. deal, signed former 2nd pick in the 2008 NBA draft Michael Beasley to a 18M/3yr. deal, and most importantly signed probably the best shooting guard prospect in the league Eric Gordon to a max offer sheet of 58M/4yr. deal. Now let's take a look at each of these scenarios:

Steve Nash Trade:

- As a Suns fan I liked this move, our two time MVP gets his shot at a title, and we get back 2 first round picks in 2013 & 2015 and also 2 second rounders in 2013 & 2014. Granted that it's the Laker's picks that the picks are going to be relatively low, however that gives us options for a potential Eric Gordon sign & trade. Even though Gordon has made it clear that he wants to be in Phoenix and not New Orleans it probably won't stop the Hornets from matching the offer or at least doing a sign & trade. They're not going to let the center piece from the Chris Paul trade get away for nothing and Phoenix can now perform such a deal with a package probably involving Robin Lopez or maybe even Marcin Gortat along with some draft picks from the Nash deal.

 Goran Dragic Signing:

- This was a great signing, not only because the Suns were in need of starting point guard but also they bring back a very popular Suns' player who studied under Steve Nash. This is also a very reasonable deal because the Suns are getting a young player who flourished in Houston during the 2011-2012 campaign as a starting point guard. During his starting stretch of 28 games he averaged 18 PPG, 8.4 APG, and 3.5 RPG while shooting 49% from the field, 38% from the 3 point line, and 84% from the foul line. Dragic probably won't be a top 5 point guard in the league at any point in time but he's a very good player who is a solid rebuilding piece.

Michael Beasley Signing:

- The Michael Beasley signing wasn't popular with some people but I feel that this is a great signing for many reasons, he has a very reasonable contract, he will provide us with the scoring punch that we've needed since the departure of Stoudemire, he still has a lot of room to grow as a player, and he's very versatile on both ends of the floor. Michael Beasley has dealt with many off-court issues that has prevent him from becoming the great player that everyone thought he'd be when he was drafted out of Kansas State. He's a terrific jump shooter and also a pretty athletic player who can finish with style & make some impressive defensive plays(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8hIY0xecBQ). Michael Beasley will get his chance to be the player that he could be during his time with the Suns, in a open fast flowing offensive system he should be able to show case his talent.

Eric Gordon Signing:

- HERE'S THE BIG FISH! Eric Gordon is one of best basket attacking players in the league, he's 6'3 but he's got incredible strength and touch. This signing was undoubtedly the best move the Suns have made this off-season, however this is a tricky situation because the Hornets will most likely want a sign & trade or they'll match the Suns' offer. Eric Gordon was the centerpiece of the Chris Paul trade and it'd be foolish of them to let him walk for nothing, I'd imagine he'd have a pretty high price tag but New Orleans already have their cornerstone in Anthony Davis & his potential sidekick Austin Rivers. Eric Gordon much like Joe Johnson did back in 2005 with the Suns, wanted to be the alpha dog, the go to guy, not the 3rd or 4rd wheel on a team. Eric Gordon's desire to come to the Suns probably also had a lot to do with the Suns' training staff who have been known as world class, just look at what they did with Grant Hill and Steve Nash. Gordon has been plagued with knee problems for the last 3 seasons as he has missed over 100 games in the past 3 years due to injuries. Even though he's a risk, he's one definitely worth taking especially if Aaron Nelson(Sun's athletic trainer) is working with him. If Gordon signs with the Suns' the Suns will jump back into the playoffs with a shot at the 6th or 7th seed. At the end of day however, the Hornets may match the offer and keep him in New Orleans which to me makes no sense because they're trying to rebuild and they have their cornerstone so why have an unhappy camper through such a process.
